Rio Popa
After more than a decade in marketing and communications, Rio stepped away from her career to raise her three children. What began as a sabbatical quickly evolved into a period of profound personal transformation. Motherhood challenged and shaped her in unexpected ways—it taught her to listen beyond words, to hold space for big emotions, and to meet others with both patience and presence.
In those years of caregiving, Rio became intimately familiar with what it means to feel stretched thin, to lose and rediscover parts of yourself, and to crave connection amid chaos. These experiences sparked a quiet but persistent calling—one that eventually led her to retrain as a counsellor.
Her journey was further shaped by the experience of being evacuated from Israel with her young children due to armed conflict. Living through displacement and uncertainty gave her a profound understanding of fear, instability, and the quiet strength required to rebuild. These personal chapters now inform her therapeutic approach: compassionate, steady, and rooted in real-life resilience.
Rio is currently completing her practicum as part of her Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy. She is especially drawn to supporting those who are navigating transition—parents, caregivers, individuals amid grief, identity shifts, or simply feeling disconnected from who they once were.
She adopts a warm, reflective, and collaborative style, grounded in the belief that meaningful change starts with feeling genuinely seen and heard. For Rio, counselling is ultimately about connection: to self, to others, and to the parts of us that get quiet when life feels too loud. She brings her whole self into the room—mother, listener, fellow human—and invites her clients to do the same.
